Handychief installs and replaces residential ceiling fans on suitable existing wiring and mounting support — customer-supplied fans, straight replacements, remote-controlled models, and high or sloped ceilings where access and the fan’s mounting system allow. Text the fan link and photos of the spot, and we’ll quote it before we arrive.
Replacement and installation on suitable existing wiring and support — quoted from your photos and the fan’s specs.
The everyday job: existing fan down, mounting location reviewed, new fan assembled, mounted on suitable support, connected to the appropriate existing wiring, blades and light kit installed, included controls set up — then balanced as appropriate and tested through its available operating modes.
Fan/light combinations, manufacturer remotes, compatible wall controls, pull chains, and smart or app controls when they come with the fan and the setup supports them. Compatibility depends on the fan model, the included receiver, the existing wiring, and the switch configuration — extensive switch rewiring isn’t automatically included.
Often workable — after access and fan requirements are reviewed. Height, safe access, ceiling slope, a compatible mounting system, the right downrod, and the existing support all factor in, and sloped ceilings need a fan and mount rated for the angle.
The fan has to match its environment: indoor, damp-rated for covered porches, wet-rated where the manufacturer says so. We install to the product’s location rating — an indoor fan doesn’t go outdoors.
A ceiling fan puts different loads on a ceiling than a lightweight fixture — it spins, it weighs more, and its mounting has to be suitable for ceiling-fan use. Before installation we review the accessible existing ceiling box, mounting support, wiring, fan bracket, and ceiling condition.
If the existing mounting box or support isn’t suitable for the fan, additional work may be required before installation can be completed — and if that work goes beyond normal installation scope, an appropriately qualified trade may be needed. We tell you which from the photos and what we find on site, rather than assuming every box is fine or condemning every box unseen.
Replacing a fan where one already hangs usually means the wiring and support are already in place — that’s a routine installation. Adding a fan where there’s never been one is different: it can require new wiring, a new box and support, switching, and ceiling access. We connect compatible fans to appropriate existing wiring as part of normal replacement installations; new or significantly modified electrical wiring requires separate evaluation.
After installation the blade installation is checked, visible alignment reviewed, manufacturer balancing methods used where appropriate, and the fan run through its available speeds — light kit and included controls tested too. The fan is checked for normal operation and unnecessary wobble; some movement can depend on the fan’s design, blade tolerances, downrod length, ceiling height, and the manufacturer’s own specifications, so we aim for the fan running as its maker intended, not mechanical perfection no fan delivers.
Bought the fan yourself? That’s most of this work. Have the complete fan on hand: mounting bracket, blades, light kit if applicable, remote and receiver if included, the manufacturer’s hardware and instructions, and any downrod or accessories your specific setup needs. We bring the installation tools and standard supplies — proprietary brackets, receivers, and model-specific parts come from the manufacturer or retailer, and if a fan arrives damaged or incomplete we’ll talk it through before proceeding.
Removal of the existing fan can be included in a replacement project. Disposal or haul-away should be confirmed as part of the project scope — ask and we’ll build it in.
Bedrooms, the living room, a covered porch with an appropriately rated fan — send the full list, the fan models, and a photo of each location, and we’ll review the whole project together and quote it as one job.
Fans have mounting and support considerations most standard light fixtures don’t — that’s why they get their own page. For chandeliers, pendants, and other fixtures, see light fixture installation; for the broader mounting list, home installation.
