Fence Types We Work With

Wood privacy, picket, board-on-board, ranch rail, cedar, and pine fencing, plus selected metal fences — material, current finish, and condition reviewed before the coating system is confirmed.

Wood Fence Painting

Opaque color and a consistent appearance for privacy, picket, board-on-board, and ranch rail fences — and suitable previously painted surfaces. Prep depends on the current coating, wood condition, and moisture; loose paint, wet wood, and active rot never just get coated over.

Wood Fence Staining

Penetrating, semi-transparent, and solid-color systems behave differently — different levels of color, grain visibility, and surface protection. The appropriate product depends on the wood, the previous finish, its condition, and the look you want.

Fence Sealing

Clear and lightly tinted sealers can help reduce moisture absorption and weathering on a suitable, properly prepared surface. They preserve the most natural look — and generally ask for more frequent maintenance, depending on the product and exposure.

Metal & Wrought Iron

Prep depends on the metal type, corrosion, galvanizing, and the existing coating — cleaning, removing loose coating, treating rusted areas, and a compatible primer where required. Galvanized metal is evaluated for coating compatibility first, and paint doesn’t stop rust forever.

Vinyl and PVC: selected vinyl fence surfaces may be paintable only when the fence material, manufacturer requirements, color choice, and coating system are compatible — we confirm compatibility before promising anything.

Paint vs. Stain vs. Sealer

Paint gives an opaque, uniform look. Semi-transparent and penetrating stains keep more wood character visible, with product-specific penetration and upkeep. Solid-color stain reads nearly as opaque as paint while remaining a stain system — behavior depends on the specific product. Clear and lightly tinted sealers preserve the most natural appearance and usually need attention sooner.

There is no universal winner: the best option depends on the existing finish, wood condition, desired appearance, and maintenance expectations, and we recommend per project. One compatibility note — the existing coating is evaluated before selecting the new finish, because penetrating stain doesn’t go over intact paint.

Cleaning, Drying & Prep

Dirt, organic growth, chalking, and failing coating come off with a method matched to the fence — appropriate washing, low-pressure washing, or hand cleaning; weathered wood doesn’t get blasted. Full-scale exterior cleaning is its own service: pressure washing. The surface then dries sufficiently for the selected system — drying depends on the material, weather, and product requirements, not a fixed number of hours.

Loose or failing finish is scraped, sanded, and feathered as appropriate, and bare, repaired, stained, or specialty surfaces are primed where the coating system requires. Full stripping of an old coating is substantially different scope, quoted separately when it’s needed.

Repairs Before the Finish

Before finishing, we visually review accessible fence sections for obvious damaged, loose, or deteriorated components that could affect the project — a condition review, not a formal structural inspection. Where agreed, minor repairs come first: individual damaged boards replaced, loose boards secured, fasteners adjusted, minor gate fixes. Soft, badly deteriorated, or structurally compromised wood needs repair or replacement before coating — paint and stain don’t stop active rot or restore strength. Leaning sections, failed posts, and other significant structural problems belong on deck & fence repair first.

New & Pressure-Treated Wood

New or pressure-treated wood should be sufficiently dry and meet the selected coating manufacturer’s requirements before painting or staining. Drying varies with the lumber, storage, weather, and product — there’s no single waiting period that applies to every fence.

Gates & Both Sides of the Fence

Gates, gate frames, and gate boards are painted or stained as part of the agreed scope — major sag correction, post replacement, and gate rebuilding are repair work, reviewed separately. The scope also defines whether you want one side or both, and whether posts, rails, and caps are included. Where the far side means entering a neighbor’s property, access and permission are the customer’s to confirm.

Application, Property Protection & Weather

Brush, roller, spray, or a combination — chosen by fence style, coating, wind, access, and what’s nearby. Siding, vehicles, windows, landscaping, pools, and neighboring property are protected with reasonable professional care, and the method is adjusted for wind and proximity rather than pushed through. Application is scheduled around suitable weather and surface conditions per the specific coating system — no rain-or-shine promises, no coating wet wood. Northwest Florida sun, rain, humidity, and coastal exposure factor into product selection, but no product makes a fence immune to them.

Finish Life & Maintenance

Maintenance intervals vary by product, preparation, fence material, sun and moisture exposure, the existing finish, and upkeep. Anyone quoting a fixed number of years for every fence is guessing — we’d rather set expectations per project.

What Affects the Project Scope

Fence length and height, one side vs. both, material and style, the current coating and its condition, cleaning and prep requirements, repairs, paint vs. stain vs. sealer, gates, posts, and rails, access and vegetation, and the application method all shape the project. For an accurate quote, send photos, approximate fence length and height, the fence material, and whether you want one side or both sides finished.

Fence Painting & Staining FAQ

  • What types of fences do you paint or stain?

We work primarily with suitable wood fencing and selected metal fence surfaces. Material, current finish, and condition are reviewed before confirming the coating system.

  • Should I paint or stain my wood fence?

It depends on the existing finish, wood condition, desired appearance, and maintenance expectations. Paint, penetrating and semi-transparent stain, solid-color stain, and appropriate sealers all have different characteristics — the recommendation is project-specific.

  • Do you clean the fence before painting or staining?

Yes — appropriate cleaning is an important part of preparation when needed. The cleaning method depends on the fence material and condition; weathered wood isn’t pressure-blasted.

  • Can you paint a new pressure-treated fence?

Yes, once the wood is sufficiently dry and meets the requirements of the selected coating system. There is no single waiting period that applies to every pressure-treated fence.

  • Can you repair damaged boards before painting or staining?

Appropriate minor board or fastener repairs can be reviewed before refinishing. Significant post or structural fence repairs should be handled separately, before coating.

  • Can you paint vinyl or metal fencing?

Selected metal and specialty fence materials may be paintable with appropriate preparation and compatible coatings. Vinyl and PVC compatibility is confirmed based on the fence material, manufacturer requirements, and coating system — it’s not a given.

  • How long will fence paint or stain last?

Maintenance intervals vary depending on the product, preparation, fence material, sun and moisture exposure, the existing finish, and ongoing maintenance — there’s no honest fixed number of years.

  • What should I send for a quote?

Fence photos, approximate length and height, the material, the existing finish, whether you want one side or both, whether gates are included, any visible repairs, your desired look, and your city or ZIP. Text it to (850) 556-2900.
