Handychief assembles and installs customer-supplied Murphy bed and wall bed systems to the specific manufacturer’s requirements — vertical and horizontal beds, and systems with side cabinets, desks, shelving, and storage. Text the product link, the manual if you have it, and photos of the wall, and we’ll quote the project before we arrive.
Component organization, cabinet and platform assembly, manufacturer hardware and lift components, doors and panels, securing per the instructions, adjustment, and an operation check — scoped to your specific system.
Both orientations, installed to the specific product’s requirements — bed size, cabinet design, lift mechanism, and room dimensions all shape the job. We install many common Murphy bed and wall bed systems; the product’s own manual is the spec we build to.
Systems with side cabinets, bookcases, and integrated storage involve more components and more alignment. Components are carefully assembled and aligned within the limits of the product and the existing room conditions — custom trim beyond the kit is separate carpentry scope.
Manufacturer-designed fold-down desks, workstations, and sofa-front wall beds assembled in the maker’s sequence. We install integrated systems as designed — we don’t engineer desk or sofa mechanisms onto beds that weren’t built for them.
Manufacturer-designed wall beds intended for an appropriate existing opening or closet configuration can be installed where the space meets the product’s requirements. Removing framing, moving walls, drywall reconstruction, and electrical relocation are construction work evaluated separately — not part of standard installation.
Murphy beds must be secured according to the manufacturer’s installation requirements — and those requirements differ between systems. Depending on the maker and model, securing can involve wall framing, specified structural mounting locations, the manufacturer’s own hardware, or other approved attachment methods. Before installation, we review the mounting requirements and the existing wall and location to determine whether the setup is suitable.
What we don’t do: invent a mounting method the instructions don’t support, or install over an unsuitable wall. If the required mounting condition isn’t available, or the wall needs work beyond normal installation scope, we’ll explain what preparation — or which trade — comes first.
A wall bed needs more than cabinet width. The proposed location must be reviewed against the manufacturer’s dimensions, clearances, and mounting requirements — which brings in ceiling height, baseboards, floor level, wall flatness, open-position clearance, nearby doors and windows, outlets and switches, vents, and furniture. That’s why the quote starts with room photos and dimensions, not guesses.
Wall beds lift on springs, gas pistons, or other manufacturer-designed systems — and the mechanism is installed and adjusted according to the manufacturer’s instructions for the specific system. Where the maker specifies spring settings, mattress-weight limits, or adjustment procedures, those are followed; some gas-piston systems are factory-configured and aren’t field-adjusted at all. We don’t improvise settings or modify pistons, springs, or safety components, and normal raising and lowering operation is checked after installation.
Most wall-bed systems set manufacturer requirements for mattress dimensions, thickness, weight, and sometimes type — plus retention straps or supports. Check your mattress against the specifications for your specific Murphy bed; the manufacturer’s numbers are the ones that count, not ours.
Existing baseboards, trim, uneven walls, and uneven floors can affect how a factory-made cabinet meets the wall, since some systems must sit in a specific relationship to it. Minor appropriate adjustments may be possible depending on the product and the agreed scope — while scribing, trim modification, baseboard removal and reinstallation, custom fillers, and built-in finishing are separate carpentry work when required.
We install customer-supplied wall bed kits from appropriate manufacturers and retailers — have the complete kit, the manufacturer hardware, the assembly manual, the lift components, the supplied mounting hardware, and any cabinets or accessories on hand. Complex kits carry a lot of hardware, and if a required component is missing, damaged, defective, or wrong, we’ll identify it and discuss the next step: lift-mechanism parts, structural brackets, safety hardware, and proprietary fasteners come from the manufacturer, never from improvisation.
Integrated lighting, USB outlets, and other manufacturer-designed plug-in components can be assembled and connected where appropriate. New circuits, concealed wiring, panel work, and outlet relocation are outside standard installation — if your setup needs them, that’s an electrician’s scope, and we’ll say so.
A Murphy bed is not a bed frame with extra steps — it’s a wall-mounted system with manufacturer-specific mounting, a lift mechanism, cabinet components, and clearance requirements. Ordinary freestanding frames live on our bed assembly page.
Duration depends on the model, configuration, cabinets, wall conditions, and access — the quote sets the schedule.

A Murphy bed is a large moving furniture system, and its safety lives in the details the manufacturer specifies: mounting, hardware, lift mechanism, mattress specifications, clearances, and safety components. We follow the installation requirements for the specific wall-bed system and check normal operation after assembly — and we don’t modify safety-critical components against the instructions, ever.

No — the proposed location has to satisfy the manufacturer’s dimensions, clearance, mounting, and installation requirements. Room photos, dimensions, and ceiling height tell us whether yours does.
Yes — when those components are part of the manufacturer-designed system and within the agreed project scope.
It depends on the wall-bed model, configuration, accessories, mounting requirements, and room conditions. Send the product link and configuration and we’ll give you an accurate project review rather than a slogan.
Yes — follow the manufacturer’s mattress size, thickness, and weight requirements for your particular system. The wrong mattress affects both the mechanism and the fit.
We’ll identify the issue and discuss the next step. Manufacturer-specific structural or mechanism components may need to be replaced before correct installation can be completed — they don’t get improvised substitutes.
